The series, ostensibly, originates from the Department of Philosophy, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India — which is not only recognized as a scholarly forum of philosophical dialogue, but has had the singular distinction of having been founded, in 1932, by Sir S. Radhakrishnan, who, later, was to become the President of Indian Republic and, accordingly, to be known as “the Philosopher-King”. The series is conceived to befittingly reflect the Department’s rich academic tradition, aptly suggested in (Padmavibhushana) K. Satchidananda Murty’s words: Global Understanding with Vedantic Spirit.
From metaphysics and epistemology, the philosophical speculation everywhere has turned towards the phenomenological issues and social aspects of life, state, and the world — as it was in the times of Greek philosophers like Socrates and Plato. As such, the volumes in the series are, though grounded in India’s traditional past, also present references to the present as well as a vision for the future philosophical thought and teaching.
The volumes here set out diverse, stimulating perspectives on the social and spiritual renaissance, besides essays on applied philosophy. Yet they are not bereft of pedagogic material for philosophical teaching. The contributors to the series include some of the leading scholars like Prof S.S. Rama Rao Pappu, Prof. Michael Goldman, Prof. V. Venkatachalam, Prof. J.P. Shukla, Prof. Johnson J. Putenpurackal, Prof. S. Gopalan and, besides these, many other academics and young researchers from India, USA and a few more countries.
